Genealogy Room

Located on the second floor of the Library, the Genealogy Room is open to the public on Wednesdays from 1:00 - 4:00 pm or by appointment. Please call (304) 592-1700 to schedule an appointment.

The Genealogy Room contains a variety of resources including family histories, genealogies and cemetery records for the area. For those with an interest in statistics, a census data index is available to use. Family tree mapping is also available with assistance from Beverly Paushel, Genealogy Room's curator.

Among our local history section, patrons can reminisce with our collection of high school yearbooks from Clay District High School and Shinnston High School dating from 1911 through 1978. They can explore our collection of histories for area churches, fraternal organizations, and communities around the county.

In addition, the Genealogy Room houses books about West Virginia such as Comstock as well as stories from local authors.

New family histories are always welcome. Share your heritage by putting a copy of your family history on file. There is a need for copies of the Shinnston News prior to and including 1981.
